Implementing Behaviour Support Plans in Practice

Learn how to move beyond simply reading a Behaviour Support Plan and confidently translate it into everyday practice.

Participants explore behaviours of concern, triggers, setting events, proactive strategies, communication and regulation supports, reactive strategies, data collection, documentation, restrictive-practice considerations and when changes or concerns should be escalated to the Behaviour Support Practitioner.

The program focuses on improving consistency across teams so that Behaviour Support Plans are understood and implemented meaningfully in real-world environments.

Integrated Response Continuum

High-Risk Assessment, Risk Management and Safety Planning

Implementing Behaviour Support Plans in Practice

The Integrated Response Continuum (IRC) is a structured framework developed by Sali Shayia to support professionals to recognise changes in behaviour, identify escalating risk and adjust their response according to the person's presentation and level of need.

The program explores the continuum from Stable through Escalation, Danger, De-escalation and Reconnection, helping participants understand that effective responses must change as behaviour and risk change.

Participants develop practical skills in early recognition, communication, regulation, de-escalation, safety-focused responding and post-incident reconnection, supported by structured tools and real-world application.
